A “lucky” farmer was left stunned after discovering a vegetable that – much to his horror – looked exactly like a human hand.
What the man initially thought was a chopped and pressed body part turned out to be a yam.
The discovery was made at his property in Jiyang city in China’s eastern Guangdong province.
Pictures show the yam with four fingers and a thumb, and what looks like “nails” and a palm on the other side.
The farmer, who has not been named by local media, said he had never seen anything like it before.
After initial shock and perhaps relief, he dug up 30 more pieces of the vegetable from the same plot, confirming that it was indeed yam.

His son-in-law, Mr Huang, shared photos of the bizarre starchy vegetable online last week and they quickly went viral.
People are even going to the fields to take pictures of their hands next To vegetables.
The yam, which many believed was part of a corpse, sparked debate, with some calling the discovery “spooky”, while others argued that such discoveries were “good luck”.
One user wrote, “At first I thought it was a human hand and I was shocked.”
“I was terrified thinking it might be part of a corpse.”
The family has since been flooded with offers to buy it, with bids even reaching £875.
But the farmer has rejected them all, despite admitting that he doesn’t yet know what to do with it.
It is not unusual for Chinese yams to grow into unusual shapes.
As they grow underground, they are affected by external factors such as soil hardness, stones, and root systems, which can change their growth direction and shape.
In rare cases, they may grow into shapes that resemble human limbs or faces features.
