Hytera Limited (ASX: HYT, OTCQB: HYTLF, Frankfurt: 8TP0) (hytera) is pleased to announce that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (Memorandum of understanding) with ARA Natural Resources LLC (jigsaw), a subsidiary of ARA Petroleum LLC, to jointly evaluate geologic hydrogen opportunities in the Sultanate of Oman.
highlighted
- MoU signed with ARA, a leading Omani E&P operator with proven capability in the country, to identify and evaluate geological hydrogen opportunities in Oman.
- Oman’s Semel Ophiolite ranks among the world’s most promising geologic hydrogen settings.
- 18 months special support
- Combines ARA’s in-country production, execution and subsurface expertise with HyTerra
- Geologic Hydrogen Exploration and Evaluation Skills and Knowledge
- Advances HyTerra’s global growth strategy by achieving first-mover position in a key emerging jurisdiction
Collaboration advances HyTerra’s global growth strategy
HyTerra continues to screen regions globally that have the potential for large-scale commercialization of geologic hydrogen, leveraging the company’s proprietary ‘Must Haves’ rulebook that evaluates potential regions according to a defined set of criteria.
The Semel Ophiolite in the Middle East has the potential to become a world-class geologic hydrogen province. Hytera’s systematic approach to de-risking exploration spanning geophysical analysis, drilling and reservoir assessment – will be applied with ARA to screen and rank opportunities across Oman.
Oman and Semel Ophiolite
With strategic efforts to strengthen both domestic energy security and global export potential, Oman is actively positioning itself as a key platform for low-carbon hydrogen..1,2
Oman’s long history of hydrocarbon development has produced extensive subsurface datasets and strong operational capabilities, which translate directly into geologic hydrogen exploration. As global interest in geological hydrogen continues to grow, Oman represents an emerging jurisdiction where early movers will benefit as the commercial and regulatory framework matures.
Oman is considered in the scientific literature to be one of the most prospective countries in the Middle East for geological hydrogen..3 The Semel Ophiolite, one of the world’s largest and best-exposed ophiolite complexes, is composed of ultramafic mantle rocks that naturally generate hydrogen through reaction with water. This process, known as serpentinization, has been observed directly at the surface, with hydrogen bubbling from springs above the ophiolite (picture 1). ARA and HyTerra’s collaboration aims to move beyond surface observations to evaluate the subsurface system and define what it takes to bring that hydrogen potential into commercial reality.

Memorandum of understanding
Under the MOU, the parties will work together to:
- Coordinate technical assessment including review of geological, geophysical and subsurface data in prospective areas in Oman
- Assess regulatory, commercial and permitting pathways in Oman
- Connect with government and industry stakeholders
- Evaluate emerging technologies that may enhance exploration, evaluation, production or commercialization
- Identify potential development concepts and commercialization pathways
The MOU establishes a structured framework for assessment, with the intention that definitive agreements can be reached when suitable opportunities are identified. The MOU also provides for an exclusivity period of 18 months.
The agreement is otherwise on standard terms including with respect to termination and intellectual property rights.
CEO Comments
Riley Kemp, CEO of Hytera, said:
“Oman hosts exceptional subsurface geology, including rock systems favorable for geologic hydrogen production. We believe this represents one of the most compelling geological settings globally, and where disciplined early assessment can create real value. Partnership with a proven and Respected Omani company Like jigsaw provide in the country operating Capacity And Experience is needed to rigorously assess that capability. This collaboration adds to our technological hydrogen exploration Knowledge with jigsaw local execution Strength – A Combination We faith Is “It is perfect to unlock what Oman has to offer.”
ARA Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Ola Fjeld, said:
“jigsaw Is Make deep technology And operational Capacity across of oman over the river Area, And We See geological hydrogen as a natural extension of that expertise into an emerging and strategically important energy source. HyTerra brings a level of technical expertise to natural hydrogen exploration He Some? companies In World can do match. We Look Ahead To mail of Our knowledge in the country And relations with Discovery of Hytera Capacity To evaluate What We faith This could be an important opportunity for Oman“
