Several milk products have been pulled from shelves in Canada following an alert issued over concerns about possible glass contamination.
According to a notice issued by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, the recall affects select products under the Farmers, Natrel and Cuban brands.
This action was first initiated by Agropur, Canada’s largest dairy cooperative, on Wednesday. The CFIA said it is currently conducting a “food safety investigation” and “verifying that the industry is removing the recalled products from the market.”
The affected items include several two-litre milk products sold in various regions. Farmers brand milk products were distributed in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, while Cubbon products were sold in Quebec.
Natrell lactose-free chocolate milk distributed nationally.
Officials are advising consumers not to use the products. The recall says they should not “consume, use, sell, service, or distribute the recalled products” and they should “throw them out or return them to the same location where they were purchased.”
No injuries were reported, but officials say the presence of glass could pose a serious safety hazard.
