The White House’s recent spate of secret activities has generated a mix of viral speculation, confusion and criticism as new pixelated images were posted on its social media accounts on Thursday. However, the recent image has left followers perplexed as some have commented that it resembles Donald Trump.
The recent posts come at a high-stress moment amid the ongoing conflict with Iran and a domestic funding impasse involving the TSA. In this regard, Deputy Assistant to the President and White House Deputy Communications Director Kellyanne Dore reacted to the post with an eye emoji over an X and another emoji resembling a purple monster or alien. On Wednesday, the White House posted two short, vague videos on its official Twitter and Instagram accounts. The first video showed a camera showing pointe shoes on the floor. A woman asks, “It’s launching soon, right?” And the second voice answers, “Yes.” Later this clip was removed.
However, a second, glitch-style video is live, with the screen being static and sounds resembling text message notifications. The caption contains a phone and speaker emoji. On Thursday, a third unexplained post arrived, continuing the trend of content without context or explanation. As of 4:28 p.m. ET, the Instagram post had received 18,000 likes and 2,700 comments. Prominent social media personalities, including Anthony Graffeo, criticized the move, with Graffeo calling the administration “really a joke”. It is unknown whether the posts were intentional or if they were the result of an error, as the White House has provided no explanation. These posts follow earlier examples of Trump administration White House social media accounts sharing meme-style content.
