A major security nightmare occurred on March 29 aboard a Frontier Airlines flight traveling from Columbus, Ohio, to Atlanta in the United States, when a passenger issued a verbal bomb threat as the plane prepared to land.
Sunday afternoon, Frontier Airlines Flight F9 2539 was forced to make an emergency landing at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport after a Level 4 security alert.
The passenger on board the plane threatened to kill the passengers and also threatened that he had a bomb.
As the Airbus A320 made its final approach, the cockpit crew reported a high-level threat to air traffic control, urging officials to activate emergency protocols to divert the aircraft to a remote taxiway away from passenger terminals and other air traffic.
According to Frontier, “As a precaution and in coordination with local authorities, the aircraft was parked at a remote location while law enforcement responded.”
Given the seriousness of the situation, officials immediately deemed the situation a “highly potential security threat”.
Immediately after the landing, the Federal Bureau of Investigation began investigating the bomb threats. Officials later confirmed that the threats were false and unverifiable.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported during this security nightmare. According to the airline spokesperson, airport operations are normal after security clearance.
“The FBI can assure the traveling public that there is no threat related to this incident,” the agency said in a statement.
