King Charles could step down “within a matter of weeks,” a close confidant told the outlet, citing his health as the main reason.
The source said the monarch’s health has been thrust into the spotlight as the Prince and Princess of Wales took the reins at a recent state banquet.
Referring to the state dinner in honor of the Nigerian president earlier this month, the insider claimed that while the royal couple exuded confidence, youth and charm, King Charles “really struggled” that night.
The king looked small, weak, and at one point almost fell into his chair because he looked “so tired.”
Furthermore, courtiers also confirmed that King Charles is “struggling to maintain his already reduced roster”, which is why “urgent talks about his abdication have increased”.
Prince William, who is the heir to the British throne, is said to be all set and taking on more responsibilities.
The claims that King Charles is stepping down come days after reports that Prince William is concerned about the monarch’s workload amid health concerns.
However, Queen Camilla is encouraging King Charles to continue royal duties amid health problems while the Prince of Wales wants him to reduce his workload.
