Wow, Donald Trump has done it again with the activation of troops like the elite US 82nd Airborne Division. I don’t think Trump would be foolish enough to invade all of Iran because the number of troops needed to take over a population of 90 million would be very high. Furthermore, Iran is protected by the Zagros Mountains in the west and the Elburz Mountains in the north, with the vast central desert forming a virtually impassable barrier. Instead, Trump might have tempted Iran to seize Kharg Island, from which 90% of Iran’s oil exports come. Kharg Island lies off the coast and its waters are deep enough that product can be loaded onto tankers known as Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs), which can hold about two million barrels. This would be a strategic move to reduce Iran’s oil revenues by cutting its oil exports in order to pressure the Iranian government to join the US.
