Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has reportedly tightened his administrative control over the online activities of all centrally contracted cricketers. According to reports, PCB has directed players to seek approval from the media department before posting any content on social media.

The move also serves as a blanket reminder about contractual responsibilities and maintaining public discipline. The cricket board reiterated that players are bound by the terms in their central contracts, which govern their digital conduct and further govern their public communications.

During the PSL opening ceremony at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, Mohsin Naqvi welcomed Maryam Nawaz as a special guest and introduced her to the franchise owners. Maryam Nawaz also congratulated all the teams.

Following this, a quote-retweet surfaced from Naseem Shah’s official account, which sparked widespread debate across the cricket community.

The now-deleted post had raised questions about the special treatment given to Maryam Nawaz at the Gaddafi Stadium, especially since Mohsin Naqvi had earlier restricted PSL matches to empty stadiums.

Naseem Shah fined PKR 20 million after controversial tweet

The Pakistan Cricket Board fined Naseem Shah PKR 20 million after he posted a controversial tweet about Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz during the inaugural match of the Pakistan Super League.

Naseem initially told his followers that the post was not intentional. He said, “Naseem’s account was recently hacked but now it has been successfully recovered.”

Following the show cause notice, Naseem appeared before a disciplinary panel. The fast bowler later apologized and sacked his social media manager.

Naseem, representing new PSL team Rawalpindi Pindies, had a tough time as he conceded 51 runs without taking any wicket in the five-wicket loss to Peshawar Zalmi.

The fast bowler has taken 152 wickets for Pakistan across all formats, which include 20 Tests, 34 ODIs and 37 T20Is.

PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi warns players on social media conduct, enforces strict rules

According to a report in Geo News, the PCB briefed both the players and their respective agents about the updated behavioral expectations. Naqvi said that the board will not allow any kind of political comments on the social media accounts of the players.

The report said that the PCB has warned the players and their managers about the new digital guidelines. The board has set strict financial penalties, stating that any contracted player posting controversial content may have to pay a minimum fine of PKR 10 million.

“Political posts will not be tolerated under any circumstances,” sources were quoted as saying by Geo News.

The report also said that Mohsin Naqvi is losing patience with the ongoing controversies regarding the Pakistan Super League season.

Last year, Pakistan all-rounder Aamir Jamal was fined $4,000 for raising slogans in support of former cricketer and former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is currently in jail.
