Princess Diana never wanted to marry King Charles as a young girl.
The new book Queen Elizabeth II, written by Hugo Vickers, mentions that the former Princess of Wales had major doubts before marrying the then Prince Charles.
Diana and Charles were married in July 1981 at St Paul’s Cathedral.
Vickers writes: “As a schoolgirl, Diana had one stated ambition: to marry her childhood sweetheart, Prince Andrew,” he wrote.
“The truth is that she barely knew Charles and called him ‘Sir’ until the day of their engagement.”
“During Ascot week, Prince Charles looked at Diana during dinner and asked his neighbor: ‘Do you think you might fall in love after the wedding?'” Vickers wrote.
Days before the wedding, it was revealed that King Charles was unsure about marrying Diana and confided in a friend.
“I’m not sure I can handle this,” Prince Charles reportedly told the pal, who added that “it’s not too late to abandon the plan.”
