A Russian model is fighting for her life after suffering a head injury and broken bones in a motorcycle accident on the Thai island of Phuket.
Ekaterina Blinova, 29, was riding her motorcycle when she collided with a car, leaving her with a broken leg and “life-threatening” head injuries.
She is in a medically induced coma and remains in a “critical condition” as friends fear: “She could remain in this state – unconscious or unaware – for several days, weeks or months”.
The model and English teacher moved to Phuket last year and never got health insurance, meaning her medical bills are rising into the thousands.
“She suffered severe traumatic brain injury with hemorrhage and dislocation of the brain,” said her cousin Yana Andreeva.
“He underwent emergency surgery the same day to save his life.
“At present, he is in a critical condition in the intensive care unit and is in a coma.
So far his surgery bill is £6,500 and the daily hospital bill is £1,200.
Friends are trying to raise money for the uninsured 29-year-old.
A family member said, “If she regains consciousness, she will require at least one more surgery on her leg, surgery to remove a blood clot in the stomach and long-term treatment and rehabilitation”.
Her mother Tatiana Mosentseva, a doctor in Russia, said: “I am flying to be with my daughter.
“I don’t know any details. I’m still in shock.”
The family was hoping to fly the model to Russia for treatment, but Blinova is too weak to be moved.
“This tragic case shows the importance of proper medical insurance for foreigners,” a Thai tourism spokesperson warned.
This comes after a 21-year-old international catwalk model was found dead at her home in Spain.
An emotional tribute has been paid to Cristina Perez Galchenko, the daughter of Spanish football star.
The Lanzarote beauty started her career at just 14 and has walked the catwalks in London, Paris and Milan.
Reputable sources said his death is not being treated as suspicious.
