Australian cricketer Adam Zampa, who is currently playing for Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League, shared his favorite cricket memory. The 34-year-old picked up a win against the India national cricket team in the final of the ICC Men’s World Cup 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Australia, led by Pat Cummins, defeated Rohit Sharma’s team in the world’s largest stadium on November 19, 2023. The defeat shattered billions of dreams across India as the Australian national cricket team silenced huge crowds by winning the World Cup, registering their sixth trophy in the 50-over format.
2023 World Cup is definitely my favorite memory – Adam Zampa
During a recent interview, Adam Zampa said that winning the ODI World Cup was incredibly special. He also described his international debut and T20 World Cup 2021 victory as great moments. However, he said that no one expected Australia to win the World Cup final in India.
Your daily dose of cricket!
“Yes, the 2023 World Cup is definitely my favorite memory. When you’ve been there for so long, there are a lot of things – your debut, the 2021 World Cup, that was great too,” Zampa said.
“But winning the World Cup, especially when we weren’t really expecting to win, that matters. And beating India in front of 120,000 people – when the crowd suddenly goes quiet – it’s a very special feeling. We got a real boost from it,” he added.

Adam Zampa played key role in Australia’s 2023 World Cup win
Adam Zampa played a key role in Australia’s 2023 ODI World Cup victory. He took 23 wickets in 11 matches and became the second highest wicket taker in the tournament. The leg spinner also recorded the record for most wickets taken by an Australian spinner in a World Cup, surpassing Shane Warne.
They struggled early against India and South Africa but things soon turned around. He took 8 wickets in his next two matches and became a reliable force in the middle overs. His spell of 4/8 against the Netherlands and strong performances against Sri Lanka and Pakistan proved crucial.
Apart from bowling, he also made useful contributions with the bat, including 29 runs from 19 balls against England, which contributed to Australia’s sixth World Cup title win.
India miss out on third ODI World Cup title despite impressive 2023 campaign
India achieved its first ODI World Cup win in 1983 under Kapil Dev against West Indies at Lord’s, and again in 2011 when MS Dhoni’s team defeated Sri Lanka in the final. They had a chance to add another trophy to their name, especially as the tournament was being played on home soil.
Under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, India dominated the competition, winning all nine group-stage matches and topping the table with 18 points. They continued their form by reaching the final after defeating New Zealand by 70 runs in the semi-finals.
India could score only 240 runs in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on November 19, 2023. Australia chased it down easily, winning by six wickets with seven overs to spare. The next ODI World Cup will be held in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia in 2027.
