A woman in downtown Los Angeles was hospitalized in critical condition Tuesday after police say she was stabbed in the neck in a random attack.
At approximately 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, Los Angeles Police Department officers responded to a report of a stabbing near the intersection of Hope Street and Olympic Boulevard, LAPD Officer Jeff Lee said. The crime occurred a few blocks away from the Crypto.com Arena and LA Live.
Police said that the woman’s age was between 60 and 70 years. According to Lee, emergency responders took him to a local hospital, where he remains in serious but stable condition.
Police immediately identified a suspect in the attack as 39-year-old Kenneth Gibson. Police did not disclose whether Gibson had any criminal record.
After a brief chase, officers caught him near the scene of the stabbing, officials said. He has since been taken into custody and charged with attempted murder.
