TL;DR
- Google has teased a new Pixel model launching tomorrow, but only in Japan.
- The teaser suggests a special-edition design rather than a brand new Pixel phone.
- A rumored dark blue Pixel 10a now seems to be the most likely explanation.
Google isn’t scheduled to launch any major Pixels in the coming weeks, so a surprise teaser from the company about the new model naturally caught people’s attention. The hype is designed to sound like there will be an ‘exclusive’ new Pixel tomorrow, but it’s likely to be less dramatic than it seems.

as seen 9to5GoogleGoogle has posted on japanese x account That Japan-exclusive Google Pixel model will launch on April 7th. The teaser also includes words that, in translation, suggest some kind of “artistic” special edition or design twist rather than the arrival of an entirely new phone.
Which phone will you buy: Pixel 10a or Galaxy S25 FE?

That’s why the most likely explanation is that this is not a surprise handset, but a regional version of something Google is already selling. 9to5Google points to a recent ex post Developer @evowizz claims that Google is preparing a dark blue Pixel 10a, and this theory matches up quite well with the dark blue color used in the teaser image.
This speculation is largely credible. The Pixel 10a is the latest Pixel from the Google production line, and the current color lineup is already bold, with the phone currently available in Lavender, Berry, Fog, and Obsidian. The dark blue finish would be a nice addition to that spectrum. Plus, a new colorway is an easy way for an OEM to refresh its existing phone in a market where it sells well. It’s a shame that most of us won’t get the opportunity to get our hands on it.
