Samsung is rumored to launch a wider form factor Galaxy Z Fold this year alongside the Galaxy Z Fold8, which will retain the tall and narrow form factor of its predecessor. Last month some leaked renders showed a “Wide Fold”, but there’s no consensus on its name yet, we’ve previously heard it referred to as the Galaxy Z Fold8 Wide, and today it’s the Galaxy Z Wide Fold.
Despite its name, here are some images that show its aspect ratio when unfolded. It’s 4:3, which is a far cry from the Fold7’s 1.11:1 (or 3.33:3) and much wider. So this is what it actually looks like, courtesy of One UI 9, Samsung’s upcoming skin on top of Android 17, where these images were found.

This should help with multitasking because if you have two apps open at once neither of them should be too thin, and it can also help inside apps where they have more room to breathe and provide a proper tablet UI rather than cluttering up the phone UI. Or they will, but Android apps notoriously don’t care that much about tablets, so it’s going to be hit or miss.
Apparently, this wide fold is meant to prevent Apple’s iPhone Fold from reaching the market, as that device has long been rumored to feature a very similar wide aspect ratio. So Samsung will be able to claim that it did it first (assuming a wider Fold launch with the Fold8 in the summer).
