TL;DR
- Samsung is expected to introduce a new wider version of the Galaxy Z Fold this summer.
- Recent renders have attempted to preview what can be expected from this so-called Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide.
- Now we’ve got some new artwork and an animation showing off the Fold 8 Wide.
Samsung’s got something new in the works for its foldables this year, as evidence continues to gather for the introduction of the new Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide model, which introduces a slightly new form-factor alternative to the company’s book-style fold. Although we still haven’t seen the actual hardware first-hand, we recently had the opportunity to check out some renders that attempt to convey the Fold 8 Wide’s new screen size, first in the form of some CAD-based renders, and then with the publication of some screens extracted from One UI 9. We’ve been digging into One UI 9 ourselves, and uncovered some new Fold 8 wide graphics to share with you.
As Samsung rolls out the Android 17-based One UI 9 system software for its fleet of Galaxy devices, some renderings of the Fold 8 Wide have emerged in early firmware builds. Last week, we got a look at these still images:

Even though they don’t show anything about the Fold 8 Wide hardware itself, these screens helped reinforce our expectations for the screen size users can expect. And now we have some new screens, as well as a new animation to top it off:

Here, we see Samsung demonstrating features related to Cover Screen Mirroring on the Fold 8 Wide. Furthermore, we are getting these two screens:
All the imagery here clearly depicts very different devices from the Galaxy Z Fold we know today, and while we’re making some guesses on the exact aspect ratio, as we account for things like bezels, across all of these assets it’s roughly 1.3:1.
As if that size wasn’t enough to convince you that we’re not just looking at the next regular Z Fold (very close to its square 1.11:1 aspect ratio), we also find “H8” in the file names of those two still screens. In case you forgot, H8 was a codename we initially associated with Samsung’s wide-folding plan.
Overall, this is very compelling evidence that we are looking at the Fold 8 Wide. Of course, it’s still the same kind of thing we’ve seen before – just more of the same. To really satisfy our Fold 8 Wide appetite, we’ll eventually need to see some photos or videos of actual smartphone hardware. Samsung is likely preparing to launch this July (or at least, this summer), leaving us with only a few more months for the foldable to surface – fingers crossed!
