Authorities are investigating after possible human remains were discovered in a Long Beach park Sunday afternoon as tourists gathered to celebrate Easter.
The Long Beach Police Department responded to a call in DeForest Park around 5 p.m. after someone searching for Easter eggs in the area found a possible small skull, KTLA 5 reported.
The police department did not provide further information Sunday night about who made the horrific discovery.
Further information about the possible remains, including how long they had been in the park, was not immediately available.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the scene following the discovery, police said. Investigation is ongoing.
Deforest Park The LA runs along the river and has a large wetland area with nature trails. Other public facilities include sports courts, playgrounds and a community centre.
