TL;DR
- Samsung is expected to introduce a new, extra-wide foldable this year.
- Thanks to some leaks and early CAD renders we have already started to get an idea of the size of this so-called Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide.
- Now a new discovery in the Samsung firmware provides another look at how this new screen is shaping up.
By most accounts, a new foldable phone is coming from Samsung. We’re hearing rumors about a new, wider version of the Galaxy Z Fold joining the next generations of the standard Fold and Flip – perhaps as a response to Apple’s rumored foldable iPhone. But as of now, we have yet to actually lay eyes on the hardware. That’s not changing today, but we have a fresh new piece to add to the puzzle.

While no actual photos of this alleged Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide have been seen yet (nobody’s super confident on Samsung’s final branding), there’s still a fair amount of evidence to help set our expectations. And now we have something else to check out, like sammobile This imagery is reportedly extracted from the phone’s One UI 9 firmware:

This isn’t the first time Samsung’s own software has given us an early look at the Fold 8 Wide, and about a month ago we got this great animation:

Comparing the two, it appears to be a pretty close match of the aspect ratio. In addition to these illustrations, we’ve also recently seen the publication of some CAD-based renders of the Fold 8 wide hardware, including a very handy comparison render against the standard Z Fold 8:

For users familiar with the regular Fold model, picking up the Fold 8 Wide may require a small adjustment, but we imagine you’ll quickly get used to not having to stretch as far to reach the top of your display, and will enjoy the wider screen real estate available to you.
While it feels like we’re getting to a place where we can really appreciate the benefits of this new size for Samsung’s book-style foldable, it would still be nice to take a look at the actual phone — or at least, some official Samsung renders.
Samsung has been favoring July launch events for its foldables for the past few generations, so it’s likely we’ll be seeing something similar in 2026 – almost certainly this summer, at least. Hopefully this means we’re not too far away from some high-quality leaks, perhaps including some photos or videos of the foldable.
