The Super Mario Galaxy movie, the 2023 sequel to the hit animated film, has taken the domestic box office by storm.
But surprisingly, the film also performed exceptionally well at the Chinese box office, earning $8.3 million and reaching No. 1 on the opening weekend charts.
In the domestic market, the film performed as expected and grossed an impressive $190.1 million from its debut.
Not to mention, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie also recorded the biggest opening day of 2026, earning a whopping $34.5 million, while the international gross is going over $370 million.
The cast of the animated film includes Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black, Donald Glover and Brie Larson.
Additionally, the franchise’s creators, directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Zelennik, and writer Matthew Fogel, have returned for the sequel along with Nintendo’s game producer, Shigeru Miyamoto.
Building on the success of the first film, which grossed $1.3 billion, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has so far overtaken Ryan Gosling’s epic Hail Mary project at the box office.
The film is running in theatres.
