Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf has rejected the US President’s threat to bomb Iran’s civilian infrastructure until the Strait of Hormuz is fully reopened.
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said in response to the ultimatum on the Strait of Hormuz that US President Donald Trump’s war with Iran is making life worse for ordinary Americans.
In a profanity-laden post on Truth Social on Sunday, Trump warned that Iran would “Living in Hell” Until the critical waterway reopens to shipping by 8:00 pm Eastern Time (Wednesday, 12:00 am GMT). He also reiterated his threat to bomb Iran’s power plants and bridges.
Responding hours later, Qalibaf urged Trump to end what he described “extreme sports.”
“Your reckless actions are pushing the United States into hell for every single family, and our entire region is going to burn because you insist on following Netanyahu’s orders,” Qalibaf wrote referring to the Israeli Prime Minister.
“Make no mistake: you gain nothing from war crimes,” The Iranian official added.
Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz “Enemy Ship” Shortly after the US and Israel began their air campaign on 28 February. Tehran later said navigation rules would change and the strait would remain inaccessible to the US and Israel for a long time.
Traffic through the strait typically accounts for 20–25% of global oil shipments and about 20% of liquefied natural gas (LNG) trade. Disruptions related to the ongoing conflict are pushing up energy prices, including in the US, where the average price of gasoline is set to rise by $4 a gallon for the first time after 2022.
