Halle Bailey reveals how she faced intense backlash after her casting in Disney’s live-action the little Mermaid.
in an interview with IndependentHalle reflected on the criticism she received after being cast as Ariel.
She told the outlet, “I feel like it taught me to listen to myself and the good voices inside. I learned how to block out the noise.”
“It was really liberating to be in the middle of this conversation, where there were so many different opinions coming in and they were diametrically opposed to each other,” Halle said.
According to Halle it feels surreal to be at the center of such a polarized reaction, comparing it to “looking at yourself inside a cup” and seeing how people “react to it”.
Halle Bailey, who rose to fame as part of the musical duo Chloe x Halle, said the experience has made her more confident in continuing her career in Hollywood.
“Growing up in the industry can really develop your sense of self, and for me, it kind of keeps me grounded,” he said.
Adding, “I know it’s counterintuitive to some people but I always think to myself, ‘None of this is real.'”
It is worth noting that Halle Bailey is currently promoting her new film You, Me and Tuscany, which is scheduled to be released on April 10.
