Google has launched a new dictation app on iOS called Google AI Edge Eloquent. The application aims to perform transcription locally using an on-device, Gemma-based model, while offering an alternative cloud that uses Gemini for advanced text cleanup. Users are eagerly waiting for the release, as it is currently free and available on the Apple App Store. Although in the early stages, the App Store listing directly references Android integration.
Key Features of Google AI Edge Eloquent
The main purpose of this feature is to instantly convert speech to text as soon as the user speaks. Automatic Filler Removal detects pauses in dictation to automatically remove errors like “um” and “ahh.” In terms of customizable formatting, it allows users to reformat cleared text in a variety of styles, including formal, key points, shorter or longer versions.
Additionally, it supports importing custom jargon, names, and technical terms via linked Gmail account or manual entry. Its performance tracking tools include a session history that monitors metrics like total word count and words per minute (WPM). Users can ensure privacy by processing data locally without an Internet connection, while the cloud mode uses the Gemini model for advanced text cleanup and enhancements.
Android availability and integration
There is currently no official release date for Android; The app is currently available only for Apple APP Store. The iOS description hints at future Android features, including a floating transcription button and the ability to set Eloquent as the default system keyboard. A “Download for Android” button appeared briefly on the official website before being removed, suggesting that a version is in development. The app is currently available at no cost to users.
