After 12 years of writing about and immersing myself in the world of fragrance, it’s not hard for me to say that I know a thing or two about what makes the best perfume, well, best. It has longevity, sure, and a head-turning blend, but in truth, the blueprint of a great perfume is based on something that can’t be defined with words – it’s a certain je ne sais quoi that takes a perfume from “good” to “cult-status.”

And this je ne sais quoi is something I have come to know. In fact, I am famous among my peers for the fact that I can smell a new perfume even before its launch and know whether it will be a hit or not. I can predict which women will wear it, when they will wear it and when How They’ll wear it—even if it’s not a perfume that necessarily goes with me. For example, I may not naturally gravitate toward sweet, fruity scents, but I can still say with absolute certainty that Parfums de Marly Delina has the je ne sais quoi to make it a modern classic. As is Maison Francis Kurkdjian’s Baccarat Rouge 540. As is the Retrospect of Merit. YSL Libre is another. Eccentric Molecules Molecule 01 also has this. And Diptyque’s Orpheon, for that matter.

My point is that throughout my career as a fragrance-expert beauty editor, I have made it my mission to select perfumes that In fact The substances—perfumes that would come to define a period.

    you may like

So, over the past three months, I’ve spent many hours talking with retailers, perfumers, editors, and, of course, perfume wearers. I have lost days scrolling through bestseller lists. I’ve pored over information (often under strict restrictions) about upcoming launches, major beauty moments, and what brands are preparing. I have interviewed perfumers and analyzed every perfume that came my way From floral scents to fresh citrus spritzes – it’s all in an effort to compile a concise edit of what I predict will be the most defining scents of the year. Including both classic fashion-house fragrances and new launches, I think these will be the hottest perfumes of 2026 – you can bank me on that.

    Most Popular Perfumes 2026

    1. Balmain Destin de Balmain

    balmain

destin de balmain eau de parfum

Key Notes: Natural Strawberry, Akiglawood, Peony Accord, Sandalwood Accord

Since launching its Les Eternals de Balmain prestige collection of fragrances in 2023, I’ve been waiting for Balmain to release a more accessible fragrance, and it’s finally here. Destin de Balmain is the definition of show-stopping crowd-pleaser. It is a kind of spicy, creamy, attractive fragrance which attracts you from the very first breath. With an alluring hit of sweetness of strawberry on top, it soon melts into a deep, sensual kind of scent, which attracts everyone around you towards it. It’s charming in the best way, and it’s absolutely impossible to dislike – your scent is the equivalent of a little black dress for a night out. And the more accessible price point has already put Destin de Balmain on the map (despite only launching a few weeks ago) – the last three people whose perfume I’ve praised were wearing it.

    2. Dior J’adore Sharp

    dior, jador intense

Key Notes: Jasmine, Rose, Ylang-Ylang, Sandalwood, Vanilla

While new perfumes come and go, some classics remain excellent, and J’adore is living proof of that. Although J’adore’s original soap may be the first thing to hit your mind when you see the gold-drop bottle, I can assure you that the latest J’adore Intense embodies the new era of J’adore. With a blast of jasmine similar to the more modern J’Dor L’Or, but with an even more intense, rich hit of delicious vanilla and creamy sandalwood, J’Dor Intense is L’Or’s more luxurious, gold-clad sister that only comes into its own after night falls. This is complete nectar.

    3. Ecentric Molecule M+ Champaka

    Ecentric Molecule M+ Champaka

    acentric molecule

    M+Champaka

Key Notes: ISO E Super, Vanilla, Musk, Champaca

I’ve already mentioned Molecule 01’s defining presence, and I can assure you that the nose-tickling, clean scent of ISO E Super won’t be going away anytime soon. In fact, for as long as I can remember, Molecule 01 has been on every retailer’s bestseller list. But fragrance-lovers of 2026 are looking for the next best, lesser-known thing, and that’s M+ Champaca. Taking that basic ISO E Super Bass, the M+ collection introduces a few other notes to create something entirely new. For example, M+ Champaca, ISO E Super’s iconic cool-girl, is a bright, warming hit of sun-drenched florals with translucent silkiness. This is the Molecule 01 alternative for those want People notice how great they smell.

    4. Chanel Coco Mademoiselle

    Sephora,

    channel

    Coco Mademoiselle Eau De Parfum

Key Notes: Orange, Jasmine, Rose, Patchouli, Grapes

It would be a waste of energy for me to explain why Coco Mademoiselle is on this list. I’m publishing my “popular perfume” predictions at least It’s been five years now, and Coco M has never No Featured. After all, it is perhaps the most iconic and, frankly, beautiful perfume creation of my lifetime – and its intense, bright, playful burst of sensuality will never wane in popularity. And while Coco Mademoiselle has long been one of the world’s most popular and best-selling perfumes, at a time when everyone is looking for a scent with longevity and dirty-girl chic, I predict that 2026 will be one of the biggest years yet. After all, Coco Mademoiselle is a fun girl Always Want to be around.

    5. Le Labo Violet 30

Le Labo Violet 30 Eau De Parfum

    take lebo

    Violet 30 Eau De Parfum

Key Notes: Purple flowers, white tea, cedar wood, guaiacwood

After years of powerful, punchy, ballsy perfumes leading the way, we’re already seeing more subdued perfumes reign supreme in 2026 as we head into spring. Perfumes with main characters are starting to get a little gaudy, and many of us are turning to perfumes with cool, subtle, soft strengths instead. Le Labo is a brand I have been associated with for a long time with this kind of cool talent and Violet 30 is an example of that. The soft, powdery, delicate scent of violet envelops the skin in a veil of femininity, while the more subdued elements of white tea and cedar wood keep things cool and a little tousled in a way only Le Labo can master.

    6. Essential Perfume Bois Imperial

Essential Perfume Bois Imperial by Quentin Bish Eau de Parfum, 100ml

    essential perfume

Bois Imperial by Quentin Bisch Eau de Parfum

Key Notes: Thai Basil Leaves, Nepalese Timut Pepper Absolute, Haitian Vetiver, Akigalawood, Patchouli, Ambrofix

In a sea of classics, I’m always on the lookout for that under-the-radar perfume that cool girls will love. That scent was, at one time, Le Labo Santal 33. We’ve also seen it with Molecule 01, Diptyque Orpheon, and Byredo’s Gypsy Water. They are the perfumes that remain eternally cool, but find greater success when they are lesser known. For 2026 and beyond, that scent will be Essential Perfumes Bois Imperial.

Recently launched in the UK (despite years of global success), Essential Perfumes tasked some of the world’s greatest perfumers with creating perfumes free of strict briefs, and Quentin Bisch (the man behind companies like Amouage Guidance, the aforementioned Destin de Balmain and Parfums de Marly Delina) created it. Bois Imperial is a woody, yet light and bright scent that cool girls gravitate towards – it exudes that effortless kind of smoothness that I can only dream of.

    7. Deadcool Mineral Milk

    Deadcool Mineral Milk Fragrance 15ml

    deadcool

    Mineral Milk Fragrance

Key Notes: Lavender, Sea Salt, Amber Milk, Cedar, Sandalwood

And while we’re on the subject of cool-girl fragrances, I need to mention the deadcool Extra Milk movement that’s been growing rapidly over the past year. For me, extra milk This is the perfume that Glossier U wearers circa 2018 were choosing in 2025 – it has all the skin-like qualities but with a harsh, creamy sweetness. However, in 2026, Deadcool introduced Mineral Milk – a tart, salty, more mask-leaning alternative. In fact, since the first time I got hold of a bottle a few weeks ago, it hasn’t left my neck. It’s got the same skin-like, creamy texture, but with a sea-salty, driftwood element that’s far from soft and supple.

    8. Acqua di Parma Colonia il Profumo Millesimeto

Acqua di Parma Colonia Il Profumo Millesimeto Eau De Parfum 100ml

    aqua di parma

Colonia Il Profumo Millesimeto Eau De Parfum

Key Notes: Bergamot, grapefruit, blood orange, ylang-ylang, orange leaves, rosemary

If you’ve ever read a single fragrance article I’ve written, you’ll probably know that my adoration and love for Acqua di Parma Colonia knows no bounds. It began in my teens, when I learned that Audrey Hepburn was rumored to have considered it one of her favorite fragrances, and from that moment on, I turned to its expensive-scented, citrusy splash to lift my spirits. This year, Acqua di Parma marks 110 years of Colonia’s existence with the launch of Colonia il Profumo Millesimeto. It’s brighter, stickier, more sun-drenched, more Joyful Recurrence of colonia. While the original will forever be the fresh splash of luxury I turn to on days when I want to feel my most together, Colonia Il Profumo Millesimeto is the splash of hedonistic escapism we’re all craving right now.

    9. Prada Lace Infusion de Santal Tea

Prada Lace Infusion De Santal Tea Eau De Parfum 100ml

    prada

Les Infusions de Santal Tea Eau de Parfum

Key Notes: Chai Latte Accord, Sandalwood, Citrus, Musk

It’s no coincidence that many of the perfumes on the list exist in cozy, creamy territory — right now, it goes without saying, we’re collectively looking for grounding comfort wherever we can find it. The most effective grounding, calming perfume so far this year has proven to be Prada’s Les Infusions de Santa Chai. With the sweet, milky, mellow flavor of tea, one whiff of this perfume makes you melt into yourself. It’s like being wrapped in the softest cashmere blanket when it’s raining outside. And it’s not just the wearer who benefits – whenever I’ve worn this perfume, I’ve had people come after me to tell me how beautiful I smell.

    10. Parfums de Marly Athenais

    Athenais Eau De Parfum 75ml

    perfumes de marly

    athenas eau de parfum

Key Notes: Neroli essence, bergamot essence, yuzu essence, orange blossom absolute, jasmine sambac absolute, mahonia, tonka bean absolute, tonka bean resinoid, vanilla accord, amber accord

In the world of fragrance, all eyes are on Parfums de Marly at the moment. The fragrance house has delivered hit after hit after phenomenal success of its beloved golden child, Delina. It feels as if the world is vulnerable to whatever new scent comes into the house – and with Athenais, I can totally understand why. I encountered this for the first time Deputy Beauty Editor, grace lindsayAnd I practically followed him into the office to ask about it. “This fragrance opens with a shot of playful vivacity; however, as it spreads over the skin, rich notes of amber and jasmine gradually envelop the senses. In true Parfums de Marly style, this is a complex fragrance that seems fresh and uplifting on the surface, only to reveal a deep, expensive-smelling scent as the day unfolds. I’m pretty sure every luxury perfume lover will be wearing this this season,” she says. Are.

    11. Diptyque Orphean Eau de Toilette

    Diptyque Orphan Eau De Toilette

    Diptyque

    orpheon eau de toilette

Key Notes: Green Mandarin, Yuzu, Juniper Berry, Pink Pepper, Ginger, Rose, Magnolia, Cedar, Musk

And finally, we reach one of my most personally hyped launches of 2026, Diptyque Orpheon Eau de Toilette. I consider Orphean Eau de Parfum to be my favorite perfume of all time, and I wear it religiously. But, the theme that runs through this list of predictions is that the 2026 Eau de Toilette iteration is lighter, brighter, and more enjoyable. It’s got all the same understated French chic as the original, but with a sunny, glossy sheen. While eau de parfum is a gin and tonic sipped at the bar of a smoky speakeasy, eau de toilette is a gin spirit sipped through a straw al fresco under the hot Parisian sunshine.
