Portable fans aren’t exactly new territory. There are dozens of inexpensive handheld options out there, and most of them sound like a dental drill at high speed. Dyson’s Lena is a little different. The Dyson HashJet Mini Cool Fan is a compact, bladeless personal fan that you can hold in your hand, sit on your desk, or clip around your neck. It is designed to run quietly at all speeds.
The fan has five airflow modes and a boost button for faster relief. It lasts for six hours on a single charge and weighs just 7 ounces. The box comes with a charging stand, travel pouch, and a neck dock with USB-C cable. Optional accessories sold separately include a universal mount for pushchairs and gym equipment, as well as a clip grip for bag straps or jackets. It comes in three colors: Ink/Cobalt, Carnelian/Sky, and Stone/Blush.
Most handheld fans become annoying due to the intense turbulence noise at high speeds. The Dyson HushJet Mini Aerospace Hush Kit uses a star-shaped HushJet nozzle borrowed from acoustics. This smoothens airflow and reduces wheezing sounds without sacrificing cooling power. According to Dyson, it’s quiet even when you crank it up.
It arrived just weeks after the Shark ChilliPil, a competing personal fan that adds a misting spray and a pulse-point cooling plate. Chilpil runs $149.99 and weighs more. The Dyson Hashjet Mini omits those extra features, comes in a lighter color, and costs $99 / £99.99. It is now available directly from Dyson’s website and at Dyson Demo Stores in the US and UK. Australia price is still to come.
