The 45-year-old bestselling American author recently shared in an interview that her real name is Sarah Cohen as she expressed her desire to move away from the privacy associated with her career. “I’m at a point in my career where I’m tired of this mystery,” she said. Cohen is pursuing his writing career along with his main profession as a doctor treating brain disorders. She previously maintained a low profile, even appearing in public with a wig and glasses to avoid recognition. However, she clarified that only the hair was part of the disguise.
He said the decision to use a pseudonym was initially aimed at protecting his medical career. “My whole goal was to keep it a secret… so that it wouldn’t compromise my ability to do my job,” he said. However, over time, colleagues became aware of her writing, although she said they respected her privacy.
The mystery surrounding her identity eventually gave rise to online speculation, including claims that she was not a real person or that there were multiple authors behind her books. Addressing the rumors he said, “Some of it is great… one that’s very funny is that people are saying I’m three men.”
Despite the revelations, she confirmed that she would continue to write under the name Frieda McFadden. She said that although her real name may be new to readers, she has always been open in her work, saying that she has “always been real.”
