Google has been working on bringing Gemini and NotebookLM together for several months. First came the ability to attach notebooks as sources in Gemini. The rollout then expanded to workspace accounts. Now he has taken the next logical step. Gemini Notebook NotebookLM sync is live. Both apps now share a unified knowledge base that gets updated automatically on both platforms.
The Notebook feature adds a dedicated section to the Gemini’s side panel. You can store chats, files, custom instructions and sources there. You can drag files from the drive, websites or copied text. Once organized in a notebook, Gemini uses those sources along with its tools and web searches to provide more relevant answers. Main section: Any source you add in Gemini automatically appears in NotebookLM, and vice versa. Both apps stay in sync without manual transfer. An “Add to Notebook” option now appears in the overflow menu on every Gemini chat.
What can you actually do with it
The practical benefit is to use features of each app on the same content. You can start research in Gemini, extract sources, then move to NotebookLM to create a video overview or infographic from the same content. The next day you open Gemini and it already has everything in context. As we covered earlier when the Gemini Notebook NotebookLM connection was first being tested, Google was positioning Gemini as the conversational front end and NotebookLM as the long-term memory. Now this is exactly how it works.
For students, the use case is obvious: Drop class notes into Gemini Notebook, ask it to generate an essay outline, then flip to NotebookLM to generate a study guide from the same content. The rollout for Google AI Ultra, Pro and Plus customers on the web begins this week. Free user and mobile access is coming in the coming weeks. As noted in Phandroid’s coverage of the NotebookLM Gemini 3 upgrade, the integration is based on an already very strong underlying model.
This is the kind of Google tie-up that has been evident on paper for some time. Nice to see it actually ship.
