It’s been five years since we last spoke to Lucy Hale about her beauty routineAnd I can confirm that the actress’s skin looks as clear and glowing as it has in 2021. (In fact, I’d go so far as to say that her complexion has remained virtually unchanged since we were introduced to her as Aria Montgomery during the 2010 pilot. pretty Little Liars.) Yet as we sit in a dimly lit treatment room in NYC sage + soundShe explains that there have been a lot of changes beneath the surface of her skin – so much so that she has developed her own whole outlook.
“In 2021, I was probably still in the ‘more is more’ phase,” she says. After all, this was the time circulation beauty secrets video-which featured a 25-step skin and makeup regimen – became absolutely the talk of the internet. Today, it’s safe to say he’s cut that routine down by more than half. “I’m five years older, so my priorities are a little different. I have to think differently about my skin type,” she says. These days, hyperpigmentation and fine lines are her main concerns (“It’s happening all over,” she jokes), hence a partnership with Shiseido—which recently added two new products to its Beneficial Brightening and Smoothing Range-was practically written in the stars. “I’ve always loved Shiseido products. To me, it’s classic, and the Benefit line is beautiful,” she says. “Once I find a product I like, I like it when it comes in threes or packages because then I know it will attack from all angles.”
The Favor Collection does just that, an offering serum, MoisturizerAnd eye cream With impeccable line-smoothing, dark spot-fading power. The serum and moisturizer also come with Picao Prieto, a plant-derived retinol alternative that’s been shown to stimulate collagen levels and smooth out wrinkles — and because there’s no actual retinol in the formulas, you can use it day and night without any worries of photosensitivity. Of course, Hale still emphasizes the importance of daily sunscreen while praising Shiseido’s Urban Eco Line For its sensuality. “It’s very transparent and you can mix it into your foundation. It’s great,” she says.

From there, her skin must-haves include a gua sha (“in the morning, I just need to wake up my skin a little bit,” she shares) and an LED mask joves. She adds, “The LED light really does wonders for my skin.”
Her makeup routine is a similar “less is more” MO Don’t get me wrong, Hale still loves to accentuate her wide, brown-green eyes, but she prefers to strategically enhance them with shadow instead of globs of mascara and eyeliner. “I really like (the look) without mascara. Somehow it makes my eyes pop more,” she tells me. “Sometimes I put clear brow gel on my lashes to make them pop out, but it doesn’t give them more color.” Charlotte Tilbury’s Brow Fix Is the MVP, because it has a clump-free formula and a small, precise brush.
This technique seems incongruous with Aria Montgomery, especially her daytime smokey eye, which took over beauty mood boards in the 2010s. Describing herself, Hale said, “In 2016, I was wearing mascara. I loved eyeliner.” pretty Little Liars Day. “I don’t think I even have eyeliner anymore.” Today, she would prefer to define her jewelery with a soft shade – i.e. Charlotte Tilbury’s Filmstar Bronze and Glow Contour DuoWhich she applies to her lash line for some subtle dimension. “It shows up (in my eyes) green,” she notes.
Don’t think that Hale shies away from the occasional bold glamour; he played Pink gold made a comeback in 2018At last. “I love dramatic haircuts. I’m growing my hair out right now, but for me, Lucy is a blunt, short bob,” she says. “I feel like I try to change it with every acting gig I do.” Of course, I have to ask her if we can expect a bigger cut or another beauty experiment for spring and summer. “No big surprises yet,” she smiles. “But if I told you, it wouldn’t be a surprise.” Who knows? In the next five years, we may look back at this conversation as inspiration for Hale’s next beauty era.
