Israeli strikes have killed at least 738 people and injured more than 2,000 since a “ceasefire” began in Gaza six months ago, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.

Gaza suffered unprecedented destruction, with more than 10 percent of its population killed or injured.

The death toll has reached more than 72,000, mostly children and women, with at least 172,000 people injured and many more believed to be trapped under the debris.

Since a United States-brokered ceasefire took effect on October 10, Israel has violated the agreement thousands of times through almost daily attacks.

Following Israeli and United States attacks on Iran from 28 February, Israeli authorities closed all Gaza crossings, preventing medical evacuations. The closure also included the Rafah crossing, which, under the terms of the ceasefire, was supposed to allow daily passage of 50 patients and their companions for medical treatment.

Health care has reached crisis point, with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) documenting more than 18,500 patients, including 4,000 children, requiring medical evacuation. Despite Israel announcing a limited resumption of medical evacuations through Rafah on 19 March, only 625 of 7,800 passengers – about 8 percent of the agreed number – have been allowed to leave for treatment since 28 February.

The humanitarian crisis continues to worsen as Israel restricts access to essential food and medical supplies. According to the Global Hunger Monitor, Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), 77 percent of Gaza’s population is now experiencing severe food insecurity.

Gaza’s government media office recently denied Board of Peace envoy Nikolay Mladenov’s claim on X that 602 aid trucks entered Gaza in one day. The office clarified that only 207 trucks actually entered, with only 79 trucks carrying humanitarian aid.

The office said the assistance being received “does not meet the level of humanitarian response required” and falls well short of “scaled access”.

The statement said Israel’s implementation of humanitarian protocols under the ceasefire agreement does not exceed 38 percent of agreed levels, adding that “distorting the facts cannot hide the scale of the disaster, nor does it absolve any party of its legal and humanitarian responsibilities”. The Office called for international intervention to protect Palestinian civilians.
