The York sisters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, are reportedly considering legal advice amid claims Prince William, Prince of Wales, could limit their titles.
Insiders claim the daughters of Andrew Mountbatten Windsor and Sarah Ferguson are feeling increasingly neglected as the monarchy develops under a “weakened” model.
“From Beatrice and Eugenie’s perspective, there is a growing feeling that they are being pushed to the margins, and this has led to serious discussions about getting a lawyer if needed,” an insider told Radar Online.
The palace source says, “There is a perception that Prince William’s long-term plans may include not only taking back his royal titles, but also access to key assets, and this is something he is prepared to fight legally if necessary rather than quietly accept.”
Beatrice and Eugenie believe they have been “loyal and discreet” during the Andrew scandal and should not be “punished for circumstances beyond their control”, as any loss of status or residence would be extremely personal for them.
“For Beatrice and Eugenie, their titles and their connection to the royal houses is about much more than property. It’s about history, family and a sense of belonging within the institution into which they were born. The suggestion that they might be asked to step away from that is difficult for them to process,” the palace aide told the outlet.
He added, “At the same time, there is an awareness that if Prince William moves forward with a tougher approach, it could mark a decisive change – and that is why they are considering all options, including legal routes.”
Now, although consulting lawyers and constitutional advice is not the first choice for Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, it may be an option if the situation escalates.
Meanwhile, speaking more publicly is considered a last resort for the York sisters.
