Eric Perr Sullivan played Davy Malcolm in the middle. His character became a favorite of the fans. Now, Caleb Ellsworth has taken his place in the reboot of the sitcom.
In his words, he feels real pressure to perform as fans of the show will be watching him closely.
The actor said that he has been a fan of the show since childhood. “I grew up watching the show. I know Davey was a fan favorite, but he was a personal favorite, too.”
He added, “And I think I knew that maybe people would be disappointed that Eric wouldn’t come back and do the show. I guess I just didn’t want to fuck it up.”
Despite the pressure, Ellsworth said his co-stars fully supported him. “They were very warm and welcoming.”
“I was really scared to come forward, but they all took great care of me and made me feel like I belonged. So I’m really grateful to all of them.”
The series logline read, ‘Malcolm lives in the suburbs with his parents and three brothers. Having been identified as having a very high IQ, he has been placed in a ‘gifted’ class at school.”
“From there, Malcolm narrates the increasingly chaotic, strange events of his life as he navigates school drama, crushes and, above all, his large, quirky family.”
