An ambulance driver who killed six elderly people was recorded telling his friend he “enjoyed doing it”. Luca Spada, 27, is suspected of killing six people by injecting lethal air into their veins in Forli, northern Italy. When air enters the circulatory system, it can travel to the brain, heart or lungs and cause heart attack, stroke or respiratory failure. After seeing people die mysteriously in Spada’s ambulance, the police tap his phone. He reportedly considered himself an “angel of death”.
Prosecutors claim that in the call to his friend Spada can be clearly heard saying: “These poor old people are suffering so much.
“It is right that they go before the good Lord.
“And anyway, I had a lot of fun doing it.
“Actually, I need to do it again asap.”

Spada has been arrested on suspicion of murder by using an empty syringe to create an air bubble into the veins of 85-year-old Deanna Mambelli. According to her daughter-in-law Monica Biondi, Dina was “absolutely fine” before leaving her nursing home on November 25, 2025.
She was being taken to a hospital just over a mile away for a check-up, but she died. The autopsy revealed that Dina had died violently from a severe heart attack. According to investigators, Spada injected a large dose of air into the woman’s veins at the beginning of the drive, causing her horrific death, The Sun reports.
Spada said he was “carefree about the situation”, adding: “I’ve always said I was just unlucky.”
He denied the murders, saying: “I have nothing to do with these incidents – I’m a nice guy.
“They were very elderly people, and we always implemented the necessary protocols. The rest will be clarified by the relevant authorities.”
Monica, Deanna’s daughter-in-law, told La Repubblica: “Everything happened very quickly: at 4.30 pm, Nonna died, and at 6.30 pm they took possession of the body, the carabinieri arrived at the hospital.
“They never told us why. We never knew anything about this whole story, we never received official communication about why this autopsy was necessary or what happened. We hope that now, finally, there will be clarity.”
This case is similar to the one that happened in the UK in 2023. Lucy Letby, a former neonatal nurse at the Countess of Chester Hospital, was convicted of murdering seven children and attempting to murder seven others between June 2015 and June 2016. He targeted premature infants by injecting air into their bodies, poisoning them with insulin, or force-feeding them milk.
