bloomberg It was reported in February that Apple was considering a new dark red color option for the iPhone 18 Pro, which some have described as dark red.
A leaker with a good track record is supporting this report today, although it’s doing it in a slightly strange way that may or may not make any sense…
deep red iPhone 18 Pro report
Gurman said in the original report that it’s unclear whether the new color will replace Cosmic Orange or be an additional option instead.
Given the success of orange, I wouldn’t be surprised if the company retains that option and adds red as an additional option. But both red and orange may be a little too close on the color wheel. We’ll see how it actually works, but I can at least tell you that, so far, red is the new dominant color in testing the next iPhone Pros.
Apple was previously rumored to be considering a purple color, but Gurman says this and the reported brown option are likely just variations of the red color.
The leaker supported the report in a strange way
leaker digital chat station have suggested that this colorway has a high probability, but their evidence for it is indirect.
The iPhone 18 Pro is more likely to be a deep red color, as I have seen the next flagship from the Android camp sporting this color.
The implication here is that competitors have seen the leaked plans for a red iPhone 18 Pro, see it as a sign that the color is likely to be popular, and are making their own plans accordingly.
9to5Mac’s take
It’s certainly true that competitors copy iPhone designs, sometimes including colors, and that was the case with Cosmic Orange. It is also true that some Android smartphone makers (not to mention Samsung in particular) try to beat Apple to the market after hearing about the company’s plans.
However, it’s unclear whether the Android brand’s plans for a dark red model are based on any New leakage or only existing bloomberg Report. It could possibly be the latter case, which wouldn’t provide any additional support for the rumor.
I personally think the Cosmic Orange experience showed Apple that there’s a lot of money to be made by introducing a new color to its iPhone Pro lineup, so I doubt the original report is true.
