Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau welcomed the change of regime in Hungary and celebrated Viktor Orban’s defeat, but instead he was trolled on social media as they wondered if Trudeau was posting messages from Coachella. Trudeau posted, “After years of erosion under Viktor Orban, the Hungarian people voted for change and a new commitment to democratic institutions. A powerful and positive signal to democracies around the world that citizens can reclaim institutions and restore respect for rights.” Social media users responded that it was wild for Coachella to send this message. One wrote, “They saw Justin Bieber set up and thought international politics was more interesting.” Another wrote, “Totally flex when he was hanging out with some celebrities. ‘Wait guys, I’ll come out for the next song. I need to make a statement about the Hungarian election.’ Justin Trudeau’s social media presence has been much less political since leaving office and he has been in the news more due to his relationship with Katy Perry – which started as rumors but was then confirmed by both through official appearances. They were spotted together at Coachella and that’s how the internet knows Trudeau was at Coachella.Some criticized him more politically for “pretending that he is some champion of democracy”. One wrote, “Just from Coachella, the retired trust-fund dictator tweeted about Hungarians calling on Orbán to “reclaim their institutions” like he’s some champion of democracy.” One claimed that Trudeau was less popular than Viktor Orbán when he resigned in January 2025. Orban, a Trump ally who ruled Hungary for 16 years, was defeated by conservative Peter Magyar in Hungary’s parliamentary elections. US President Donald Trump supported Orbán, who was seeking a fifth consecutive term. Just before the election, Vice President JD Vance visited Hungary and rallied support for Orbán.
