A tornado watch has been issued for Milwaukee and most of southern Wisconsin as severe weather is expected across the region on April 14.
According to the National Weather Service, the alert was issued around 2:30 pm and will remain in effect until 10:00 pm.
It includes parts of southern Wisconsin, northern Illinois, and central to eastern Iowa.
Meteorologist Kevin Wagner said conditions are unusual for this time of year after the recent warm weather.
“Things are really kind of coming together,” Wagner said.
The storm system has already spawned one tornado in Iowa and is moving east toward Wisconsin. It is expected to reach Milwaukee around 6:00 pm and severe conditions will likely last until midnight.
As the system develops, it could form a line of storms, increasing the risk of damaging winds.
National Weather Service meteorologist JJ Wood urged residents to remain vigilant.
“Today is one of those days when you really want to pay attention to the forecast and be aware of the weather,” Wood said.
This watch is for severe weather on April 13, including a confirmed tornado in Taylor County and damage caused by high winds in Milwaukee.
