Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb, apart from being co-workers, share a strong, friendly, and familial bond.
This was clearly visible when the pair cried during a recent interview as they sobbed over the horror the Guthrie family is facing after 84-year-old Nancy – the Today show anchor’s mother – went missing for more than a month.
Additionally, Kotb is stepping in as anchor Craig Melvin’s replacement on Today after going on spring break, allowing him to co-host the show with Savannah, who returned to the airwaves just weeks after her mother’s disappearance.
“It was so much fun holding her hand. I mean, that’s been my favorite part,” said Kotb, who experienced an extremely emotional moment while working with Savannah as she grappled with the loss of her mother.
The anchor was speaking to People while attending a screening of Sheinelle Jones’ debut book, Through Mom’s Eyes: Simple Wisdom from Mothers Who Raised Extraordinary Humans, at The Double Knot in New York City.
Fighting back tears, Kotb said, “Just sitting next to her. That’s all. It’s been really beautiful, and I feel privileged to be able to sit there for a while.”
He added, “I don’t feel that way. I feel like I have to sit in the seat and see what power looks like. There’s no one like him.”
Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies investigating Nancy’s missing case are yet to produce any suspect.
