A teenage boy was killed and two others were injured in a suspected gang-related shooting in Eisenhower Park on Long Island, according to police.
The Nassau County Police Department said the shooting happened near Hempstead Turnpike and Merrick Avenue about 8:20 p.m. Wednesday.
Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder said the invitation to the barbecue was shared with gang members on social media.
An argument broke out during the meeting before shots were fired.
A 15-year-old teenager and two other people were hit by bullets. All three were taken to the hospital, where the teen was declared dead. His identity has not yet been released.
Two other victims underwent surgery late Wednesday and were reported in stable condition, Ryder said. His age has not been confirmed.
Two persons carrying weapons were taken into custody at the scene.
Police have not yet released details about possible charges or the identities of the suspects.
