A few weeks ago, Apple launched the new version of its smallest gadget – AirTag. The flagship tracker had not been updated since its release, so the launch of Gen 2 was a necessary change.
Since the beginning of 2021, Apple’s native Bluetooth tracker has been used to monitor the location of all types of devices. People use this device at the airport to track their luggage as well as their keys, bags, wallets and other valuable items that usually get lost.
Gen 2 AirTags notably received a louder speaker and an expanded location range. These AirTags also use the same Ultra Wideband chip as the iPhone 17 lineup, iPhone Air and Watch Ultra 3, and Watch Series 11.

And all those upgrades are great. But if you want to add Bluetooth tracking to items in your home or on your person, and you’re not the type to lose items all over the world, Gen 1 AirTags Can handle it perfectly fine. You don’t need big location limits to track your TV remote.
That’s what makes this deal at Best Buy great. As retailers are trying to clear shelves to make way for the new Gen 2 AirTags, the OGs are on sale at the lowest and best price I’ve ever seen for this 4-pack configuration.

I’m still using my “old” AirTag to track my luggage, bags, and more. In fact, I just swapped out the battery in the AirTag on my keyring.
New isn’t always the best choice when it comes to everyday functional technology, and there’s no reason to splurge when you don’t need to. I don’t need the advanced features offered by the Gen 2s right now, so I’ll save a few bucks and grab the Gen 1s on sale before a summer trip. If I need the AirTags Gen 2 in the future, they will still be available for me to purchase (and probably at a better price).
How I evaluated this deal
This is the lowest price I’ve ever seen the original AirTags sold for, especially this 4-pack. They’re not the latest and greatest, but they still get the job done and provide fairly accurate Bluetooth tracking, supported by Apple’s Find My technology. These are a great scoop on sale, especially if you plan on using them for items in your home or on your person.
