Pune airport in India is facing delays as the runway has reportedly been closed following an incident. According to local reports, it will take about five hours for normal operations to resume.
A jet fighter plane reportedly landed hard on the runway due to an undercarriage failure. The runway is currently unavailable for civil air traffic for at least 5 hours. Speaking at the X, an Indian Air Force (IAF) spokesperson said: “The Pune runway is temporarily unavailable due to an incident involving IAF aircraft. The aircrew are safe and there is no damage to civilian property. Efforts are underway to operationalize the runway and resume normal operations as soon as possible.” Due to the disruption, arrivals and departures have been immediately suspended, with many incoming flights being diverted to Surat and Goa’s Mopa airports as a precautionary measure. Speaking on Express, a stranded passenger reported “huge chaos” after his Pune to Indore flight was canceled at 1 am.
