Today Spotify has announced that it has revamped its tablet interface for both Android tablets and iPads. According to the official press release, the “new app experience” is built from the ground up for tablets, and is “designed to make listening, watching, and searching feel more natural on the larger screen”.
The redesigned tablet UI isn’t just a bigger phone version like before. Instead, it is designed to take advantage of the extra screen real estate, “so you can browse and discover new favorites alongside what you’re already playing”.
As you switch between portrait and landscape, the UI gets reconfigured – it doesn’t resize like before. In this way, Spotify says it now feels “balanced and deliberate” in both approaches. The new sidebar lets you browse and search while you listen, thanks to its interactive and scrollable content, and you can collapse or expand it to suit your needs.
The Switch to Video toggle is front and center, so you can easily switch to a more immersive viewing experience. Although the UI is different, the core navigation hasn’t changed, so the experience still feels like “a natural extension of the mobile app.” The bottom navigation bar is present, and keeps your main pages in easy access.
