For Dwayne Johnson, “real manhood” is not muscles or uniform ideals. Instead, it’s about supporting women.
Appearing at CinemaCon, where the new look for the upcoming live-action film was unveiled, The Rock introduced his co-star Katherine LaGaia, who plays Moana, but not before making some thoughtful comments about her character.
“The hero of our story is not a princess; he is a warrior,” he told the audience in Las Vegas, “To all men of all ages, we must empower, support and support all women. This is what real manhood looks like.”
Additionally, Johnson reflected on his connection with Maui, saying, “The animated version was an amazing experience for us as Polynesian people. Maui has been with me for over a decade, and having the opportunity to bring this powerful and vulnerable deity to life means a lot to me.”
The film’s logline reads, “In Moana, the live-action reimagining of Disney’s beloved Oscar®-nominated animated adventure, Moana (Katherine Lagaia) answers the call of the sea and, for the first time, travels beyond the reef of her island Motunui to accompany the infamous god Maui (Dwayne Johnson) on an unforgettable journey to restore prosperity to her people.”
The live-action Moana will be released in theaters on July 10.
