God speaks to us where we are
“When Jesus came, he looked at Zacchaeus and called him by name. ‘Zacchaeus!’ He said. ‘Quick, come down! Today I must be a guest in your home.” -Luke 19:5
Has God ever spoken to you right where you are? I once heard a funny joke shared by a pastor. “Do you think God speaks to sinners? If you don’t, then how come you all are here?”
I had bought tickets to watch Third Day for my husband’s birthday. The opening act was a guy named Josh Wilson, the composer of some great songs. On one of the last songs, he shared his inspiration for the song. He said that there came a season in his life when he had to struggle with panic attacks. I looked over at Justin and my eyes started watering, because he had dealt with a similar problem years ago due to an allergic reaction, where his throat was swollen and he felt like he couldn’t breathe. I thought it was great, God put it in concert – it seems like it’s just for him.
In the Bible story of Zacchaeus, Zacchaeus was a tax collector who really wanted to see Jesus. Today we might call him a groupie. However, he was short, so he decided to climb a tree to get a better look at Jesus. But Jesus prophetically knew where he was and asked him to come down and said that He was going to be a guest at his house. Zacchaeus was very happy. And even though people rejected it and called Zacchaeus a notorious sinner, Jesus called Zacchaeus right where he was.
Has God ever spoken to you right where you are, right in your situation? Praise him for his faithfulness today. If it has been a while or you have never felt God speaking to your situation, pray and ask Him to reveal Himself to you today. He delights in being close to His children and talking to us where we are.
