The Samsung Galaxy Z Trifold, unveiled last December and already discontinued in several markets, measures 3.9-4.2 mm thin when unfolded and 12 mm thick when folded. According to a new rumor, the second-generation Trifold, which may be called the Galaxy Z Trifold 2, may be thinner than the original Trifold.

The Galaxy Z Trifold 2 will have a slim profile courtesy of a new hinge mechanism being developed by Samsung. However, the TriFold 2 won’t be the only foldable that will benefit from this, as the source claims that a version of this new hinge with technical adjustments will be used for other single-folding Samsung smartphones.

It’s unclear whether single-folding Galaxy smartphones expected in a few months will come with this new hinge, or those scheduled to launch next year, as the TriFold 2 is rumored to arrive in mid-2027, and we suspect Samsung will use the new hinge mechanism for single-folding smartphones before the second-generation TriFold.
