Charlize Theron has strongly condemned Timothée Chalamet’s comments about ballet and opera.
For those unaware, Chalamet faced criticism after claiming in an interview in March 2026 that “nobody cares about ballet and opera” because they are dying art forms that people no longer find interesting. People outside the entertainment world also criticized him.
Theron gave an interview the new York TimesWhere she opened up about running in dune One day star.
She told the outlet, “Oh, boy, I hope I meet him one day. I feel like it was a very careless commentary on an art form, two art forms, that we need to constantly lift up because, yes, they have a hard time. But in about 10 years, I think AI is going to be able to do Timothy’s job, but it’s not going to replace a person dancing live on a stage.”
“And we shouldn’t focus on other art forms. How about we start with that?” old guard the actress asked.
For Theron, dance is one of the most “disciplined” things because “it taught me structure. It taught me to work hard.”
“It’s extremely humiliating. There were times I got blood infections from blisters that never healed. And you don’t even get a day off. I’m talking about literally bleeding out of your shoes. And it’s something you have to practice every day… The mentality is just, you don’t give up, there’s no other option, you’re going, you keep going,” Charlize Theron explained.
