Authorities say eight children have been killed in a domestic disturbance in Louisiana, multiple news outlets report.
According to Police Chief Wayne Smith, the shooting occurred around 6 a.m. Sunday in Shreveport, news agency AP reports.
The victims ranged in age from one to about 14 years old. He said that a total of 10 people were shot.
Officials said they were still gathering details about the crime scene, which spanned three locations. The suspected shooter was shot during a vehicle pursuit by police, Smith said.
Some of the children who were shot were related to the suspect, Smith said.
“It’s a broader scene than most of us have ever seen,” Smith said.
Louisiana State Police say their detectives have been asked by Shreveport police to investigate. In a statement, state police say no officers were harmed in a shooting that followed a police chase in Bossier City early Sunday morning.
State police are asking anyone with pictures, video or information to share it with state police detectives.
