Iran has reportedly rejected a second round of peace talks with the US a day before they are to go ahead. The state IRNA news agency reported that Tehran’s absence was due to “Washington’s excessive demands, unrealistic expectations, frequent changes in stance, repeated contradictions and the ongoing naval blockade.”
US Vice President JD Vance was first to lead a Washington delegation to Islamabad, Pakistan donald trump He said he had to pull out due to “security concerns”. Now with yesterday’s talks looking set to be cancelled, the question arises whether the current two-week ceasefire, which expires on Wednesday, will be renewed.
He said in a fiery post on Truth Social that “if Iran does not sign this deal, bridges and power plants will be targeted”.
Mr Trump was outraged after Iran quickly reversed its decision to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and opened fire on ships passing through the vital passage.
He said angrily: “Iran decided to open fire in the Strait of Hormuz yesterday – this is a complete violation of our ceasefire agreement! Many of them were aimed at a French ship and a United Kingdom cargo ship.
“That was not good, was it? My representatives are going to Islamabad, Pakistan – they will be there tomorrow evening for talks.
“They are helping us without knowing, and they are the ones who lose $500 million a day from the closed route! The United States loses nothing.
“In fact, many ships, right now, are headed to the US, Texas, Louisiana and Alaska, to praise the IRGC, always wanting to be the ‘tough guy!’”
