Prince Harry recently spoke about the emotional challenges of becoming a father during his visit to Australia with wife Meghan Markle.
According to a source, the Duke of Sussex’s words show he is focused on doing the necessary inner work so he doesn’t pass on unresolved trauma to his children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Speaking during a discussion on fatherhood at a charity event in Melbourne in November, Harry explained how becoming a father to Archie and Lilibet has made him more aware of his emotions and how they can affect children.
“I think the biggest piece of advice my doctor in the UK gave me was to be mindful of how you feel after the baby is born,” she said.
King Charles’ son added, “Every time I went to work, and came back – if I was stressed, as soon as I held Archie, he would start crying… Fatherhood is the most important and transformative role a man can ever play, ever.”
“From my perspective, our kids are our upgrades. I wasn’t taught that way, but that was my perspective on it — not to say I was an upgrade from my dad or my kids are an upgrade from me,” he added.
“That’s the approach I take, knowing that with the way the world is going, the kids we raise need to be innovative in today’s world.”
Sharing her two opinions on his speech, the source told a US-based entertainment site, “He’s presenting fatherhood as something that requires real emotional responsiveness.”
“For them, it’s not just about being present — it’s about doing the internal work so you’re not left with unresolved issues,” the insider said.
