People familiar with the DRAM market report that Samsung is accepting final orders for LPDDR4 and LPDDR4X memory chips. Production will likely continue throughout 2026 to fulfill all orders.
Once LPDDR4 and LPDDR4X modules are phased out, Samsung will convert existing production lines to LPDDR5 manufacturing in the first quarter of 2027. It’s no surprise that Samsung is shifting its efforts toward a new DRAM generation, given the memory semiconductor supercycle we’ve just had. This will lead to higher revenues for Samsung in the coming year as DRAM prices continue to rise.
The end consumer also wins. Once Samsung stops manufacturing LPDDR4 chips, it will start using 50% faster LPDDR5 memory for its low-end and mid-range devices as well.
