Many people may dream of relocating abroad, but what you might not realize is that some countries will actually pay you to do so. If you love being in the glorious sunshine while making some money in the process, you can pack your bags forever and set off on the adventure of a lifetime.
Countries like Spain, Italy and Greece will literally pay “thousands” for Britons to move abroad and start a new life. Whether you’re tired of the British weather, keen to start a new chapter or want to move somewhere completely different, it might be worth considering changing things up.
The plans available to the public were recently highlighted by History on a Map on TikTok, which reveals what potential movers need to know. It’s amazing to think that you can actually get paid to relocate to these amazing countries.
Italy
Italy is one of the countries that offers financial incentives to newcomers. If you love eating pasta, tasting great wines, and immersing yourself in rich history, you may actually be paid to do so. It states: “Areas such as Calabria, Molise and Sardinia are suffering from massive depopulation.
“To revitalize these ghost towns, local governments are offering between €10,000 (£8,705.50) to €30,000 (£26,116.50) to people under 40 who are willing to settle there.” Italian regions such as Calabria, Molise and Sardinia appear to be offering financial incentives to combat declining populations in rural communities.
Schemes have been reported that provide up to €30,000 for people wishing to relocate to towns with fewer than 2,000 to 3,000 inhabitants. Typically, to qualify for the scheme, applicants must be under 40 years of age, set up a business or renovate a home. There are certain criteria that must be met to avail the offer.

Similarly, rural towns are actively looking for new residents, including Ponga in Asturias. The video explains: “As part of the Empty Spain initiative, the city of Ponga is offering €3,100 per person to go there.”
According to reports, this figure is actually claimed to be between €2,971 and €3,000 per person (often reported to be around £2,600) for new residents. Still, there are more incentives available for couples and families to help reverse its declining population.
If you’re tempted to take the risk, this plan calls for a five-year commitment to live in the area. Simply put, you need to be completely sure before submitting your application.
Greece
Another option is to relocate to the small Greek island of Antikythera, where residents are reportedly paid up to €500 per month for the first three years. The rehabilitation package is designed to repopulate the area, with new residents offered a house, a plot of land and monthly payments.
The initiative is primarily targeted at families and skilled professionals such as bakers, builders and farmers to strengthen the local community.

The video also highlights that people can be paid to visit Japan. The amount people are paid varies, as every plan has its own guidelines, and may not be in as much detail as in the video.
While people cannot be paid simply to relocate to Ireland, grants are available for those who move to renovate properties on its remote offshore islands. There are all kinds of schemes that people can take advantage of, but it’s not as simple as packing your bags.
