If you think I have an outfit folder for day-to-day dressing, you better believe I have a process for getting ready for breaks or beach vacations. I hate overpacking or feeling like I’m wasting any time other than relaxing with my family — and I carefully test all items and coordinate to bring accessories that can mix and match with most things. Where I used to just worry about myself, now I have to make sure my beach bag is big enough for all the kids’ toys I’m carrying with me, and that my clothes aren’t going to get sucked into the back of two girls at the pool, or someone sitting on my lap at dinner.
While it does require some work on the backend, the reward for being prepared and ready to go is that I feel good in what I wear, but also feel functional. Having a few favorite outfit formulas like the ones below makes packing a little easier. Plus, what’s better than warm weather, funky clothes, and relaxing on that trip (not vacation) with your little ones when you already know what you’re going to wear.

Crochet pieces for travel are some of my favorite pieces because they’re so cute, wearable, and something you never get to wear in your daily life.

Beneath it all: My favorite bathing suit roundup. Easy, flexible, comfortable.
cover up

I live to buy and collect coverups, and continue to gravitate toward and return to styles that are comfortable and wearable, especially when chasing after two little girls who love nothing more than relaxing over the holidays.

Stay in these Chan Lu sets on vacation, they’re multiple outfits in one, can be worn together or as separate outfits or to the beach—I always go.

I love this one from Faithfull brand. Everything they do is perfect for summer and holidays.
flowy top

A flowy top is essential for wearing with anything from linen pants to jean shorts. I love fun printed or colorful styles that I wouldn’t normally wear to the office.
printed dress

A nice printed dress is essential on the holidays (and probably always).
shorts

Shorts can be worn over a bathing suit if necessary for a more informal dinner or dressed down with a t-shirt for morning breakfast.
white dress

Wear a white dress on vacation after sitting outside in the sun all day (you still get a glow under the hat.)
mini bag
You can add a mini bag to your travel bag, which should always be a Dagne Dover carryall or backpack.
