For weeks, people have been confused about the screenless band seen on NBA star Steph Curry’s wrist. We knew it was a Google-backed Fitbit device. We knew it would come sometime in 2026. We didn’t know what its name was. According to sources Talking to 9to5GoogleThat changes today: It’s reportedly called the Fitbit Air.
Sources familiar with the product say the full name will be “Google Fitbit Air.” The “Air” branding reportedly refers to the band’s thin, lightweight design made for all-day wear. Fitbit has used the Air name before, most notably on its Aria Air smart scale from 2019, but this is a very different kind of product.
More than just a new name
It is not only the name that is being leaked. According to 9to5Google, Fitbit Premium, the subscription that currently unlocks AI-powered health features, is reportedly being rebranded as “Google Health.” The AI personal health coach currently in public preview will also have a new name, which will become “Google Health Coach” at launch.
This change makes sense when you look at how the Fitbit Health Coach has fared over the past few months. During testing, Google deliberately avoided branding it beyond just “Coach”. The gradient ‘G’ logo at the end of Curry’s teaser video, which shows no Fitbit branding, now looks like an intentional preview of that rebrand.
As far as the Fitbit Air is concerned, the design is hidden in plain sight. Curry has reportedly been wearing it since January, having been spotted during warmups, during the All-Star Game, and throughout March. Earlier coverage tracked those scenes in detail, revealing a fabric band in light gray with orange accents and no visible display. Health metrics like heart rate, cardio load and energy burned appear in the connected phone app.
Bloomberg reported that Band will come with basic features, but deeper health insights will sit behind a paid subscription, the same model Whoop uses. Google confirmed in October that new Fitbit hardware was coming in 2026, though no one expected a screenless Whoop-style tracker at the time. The screen-free wearables space is also getting busy. Polar has recently jumped into this category with its own subscription-free sharing.
No price or official launch date has been confirmed, but sources say an announcement is expected in the coming weeks.
