Tehran/Jerusalem (meaningful news) – The United States military has intercepted and seized an Iranian-flagged container ship that attempted to bypass a US blockade near the Strait of Hormuz, the first such incident since sanctions on Iranian ports began last week.
US President Donald J. Trump confirmed the operation, saying the ship ignored repeated warnings before being stopped by force in the Gulf of Oman.
Iran’s joint military command condemned the seizure as “theft” and warned that Tehran would respond, saying the move violated a fragile ceasefire in place since April 8.
Video footage reviewed by Worthy News shows US naval forces firing at and boarding an Iranian-flagged cargo ship as it attempted to approach the strategic shipping route.
The incident raises fresh concerns about rising tensions in the region where the strait is a major artery for global oil supplies.

Trump said a US Navy guided missile destroyer had warned the ship to stop, but received no response for several hours.
“Our Navy ship stopped them in their tracks by blowing a hole in the engine room,” Trump wrote, adding that the ship is now in the possession of the US military.
He said the ship was subject to US Treasury sanctions due to its “prior history of illegal activity”.

Armistice talks under doubt
The seizure has cast doubt on earlier plans for renewed diplomacy, with Washington hinting that negotiators could travel to Pakistan for talks with Iran.
The discussions have raised hopes of extending the ceasefire, which is due to expire in a matter of days, although Iran has not confirmed whether it will participate.
Observers in Islamabad reported activity around a hotel hosting the talks, suggesting preparations may still be underway.
However, Iran’s strong reaction to the maritime incident has raised uncertainty over whether talks can move forward.
The clash highlights the weakness of the ceasefire and the risk of further tensions in the already volatile region.
